Host ReportsVersion 3.0 of ReportCenter introduced the Host report category. All of the reports in this category are derived exclusively from information forwarded by your PacketShapers using the Flow Detail Records feature available in PacketWise software versions 7.0.0 and greater. In a default installation of ReportCenter the Host category will not appear in the Report Selector Bar. It is available only when you configure a PacketShaper to use a specific Collection Agent as a Flow Collection Agent. When you make this configuration selection in the ReportCenter Administrator Console Modify Device Configuration dialog a flag is set that enables the Host category in the Report Selector. Reports based on FDR data always include the IP address of each listed host. ReportCenter also tries to determine the host name for each IP address. The ReportCenter Report Server attempts a reverse DNS lookup for each IP address using the DNS server assigned in the Windows configuration. Host name lookups are not performed until a report is requested. For the first instance of a report containing a particular IP address the report may be served before the host name is resolved, in this case only the IP address is shown. ReportCenter may use WINS protocol to determine the host name for hosts on the local network. By default, host names are cached locally by ReportCenter for 30 days. Flow data aggregation is done by IP address, not host name. Data for two IP addresses that resolve to the same host name will not be aggregated. A report that shows host names might contain multiple entries for the same host name if multiple addresses in the report resolve to the same host name. For example, many IP addresses resolve to host names for large organizations like yahoo.com or google.com. For more information on Flow Detail Records and how to configure your PacketShapers and ReportCenter to utilize this feature see Flow Detail Records Overview and Set Up Flow Detail Records.
