Application ReportsApplication Reports CategoryThe Application Reports Category gives you access to performance information that uses the associations made by ReportCenter between traffic classes on individual PacketShapers. Application reports are based on information that relates to a specific traffic class as identified by your PacketShapers. ReportCenter automatically associates traffic classes reported by your PacketShapers with applications known to operate across networks. When a PacketShaper observes a new traffic class in your network it reports the complete traffic class name to ReportCenter. ReportCenter prepends the name or IP address of a PacketShaper, then reads the name of the traffic class from left to right looking for a match with an existing, known application. If a string is found in the traffic class name that matches an existing application name known to ReportCenter the statistics reported by that traffic class are grouped together with those from traffic classes reported by other PacketShapers. The result is that ReportCenter allows you to see the actual network applications running across your network on a site by site basis. In the context of ReportCenter, reports based on traffic classes compare or apply to specific traffic classes on one or more PacketShapers, while application reports present information on network traffic that has been matched, traffic class to traffic class, by the application list in ReportCenter. You can remove, modify and add items to the list of applications in ReportCenter by connecting to the ReportCenter Report Server with the Administrator Console program and selecting Define -> Application Names. Application Report TypesThe Top Applications report gives you immediate visibility into the ten most bandwidth-hungry applications in your network. You can see reports that are based on Response Time Measurement (RTM) information, bandwidth utilization, or exceptions to performance criteria that you configure. If you are using the compression features offered by the Xpress option in a PacketShaper you can see the benefits of Xpress using the compression-based reports. If your network includes some sites that do not have their own PacketShaper you can use the Site Reports to identify and track the bandwidth usage, Top Sites, and response time information for each site. Create container traffic classes with a name for each site in a PacketShaper, and configure these traffic classes to capture traffic inbound and outbound using the IP address of a remote firewall or router to trap data.
