Configure ReportCenter

Workflow

After a successful installation of ReportCenter you need to configure the program so that it can communicate with your network of PacketShapers and gather statistics. If you are using the FDR capabilities of ReportCenter you must also configure your PacketShapers to send flow data to your Flow Collection Agent(s). To perform most configuration tasks you will use the ReportCenter Administrator Console program, provided on the first ReportCenter CD, or available as a download directly from the ReportCenter Web Server.

Initial Configuration Checklist

Using the ReportCenter Administrator Console, you need to configure the following items to enable ReportCenter to start collecting network performance data. More information about how to configure these items is available by following the links in this checklist.

  1. Verify that the Collection Agent is active and ready to collect data.
  2. Adjust poll intervals as necessary.
  3. Define network groups as needed to set up the outline of your managed network. ReportCenter installs three default groups: Organizations, Products, and Locations. You can use these default groups for now or you can add more groups. You can also delete the default groups or any you have added.
  4. Add PacketShapers to your groups to set up your network.
  5. Expand your Network Tree to view statistics for the devices. Customize the statistics columns if desired.
  6. Verify the discovery process to ensure that PacketShapers you defined are communicating with ReportCenter.
  7. View discovered components to ensure that the components of your devices are automatically being defined in ReportCenter and make adjustments to component information as needed.
  8. Examine and configure the relationships between traffic classes and Applications as necessary.
  9. Optionally, create Site names in ReportCenter and Sites in your PacketShapers if you wish to use Site-based reports.
  10. Optionally, configure Flow Detail Records in ReportCenter and your PacketShapers if you want to use the Host report category.
  11. Verify that your users are permitted access to the reports you want them to use.
