Configure PacketShapers for Host Accounting

To configure your PacketShapers so that Host Accounting reports will be available from ReportCenter:

  1. Connect to the Command Line Interface (CLI) in a PacketShaper and login using the Touch password.
  2. Use the command host accounting enable inside 15 to turn on the feature for the local LAN.

Note: Use of host accounting on the outside port is not recommended if your WAN connection faces a large number of possible destinations, for example an Internet link. ReportCenter has a finite capacity for unique components, and host accounting creates a component record for each discovered host. If you enable host accounting on an interface facing the Internet an excessive number of ReportCenter components may be consumed by host component entries.
Note: The number 15 in the command above sets the sampling interval to 15 minutes. The value you use for the raw granularity configured on the collection agent must be equal to or a multiple of the number used in this PacketShaper command. The default raw granularity for Host Accounting in ReportCenter is 15 minutes.
  3. Issue the reset command to restart PacketShaper.
Note: Changes to the host accounting feature in a PacketShaper do not take effect until you perform a reset.
  4. Optionally, you can reconnect to PacketShaper and use host accounting show to verify your configuration.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for each PacketShaper from which you want to collect host accounting information.
  6. Allow 24 hours for the changes to be detected by the ReportCenter Collection Agent, and the new information to be pushed to the ReportCenter Report Server.
Note: You can get complete information on the Host Accounting feature in PacketGuide for PacketWise.
