Set Up ReportCenter for Flow Detail Records

Your PacketShaper offers a Flow Detail Record (FDR) feature that lets you track the connections that occur between devices in your local network and remote IP addresses. Using ReportCenter you can view a number of detailed and specific reports to analyze usage on your network down to the level of specific hosts.

Note: ReportCenter v3.1 does not support intermediate FDRs, which are avaliable on PacketShapers running PacketWise 7.3.1 and later.

To configure ReportCenter to capture and use the FDR data sent by your PacketShapers:

  1. Connect to ReportCenter with the ReportCenter Administrator Console using an account with administrator privileges.
  2. In the network tree, select a PacketShaper that you have configured or will configure to send FDR data to ReportCenter.
  3. Drop-down Define and select Modify Device. The Modify Device Configuration Dialog appears.

  4. Drop-down Flow Collection Agent and select the Collection Agent that will receive the FDR data from this PacketShaper.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for each PacketShaper that will send FDR data.

You can have multiple Collection Agents receiving FDR data and each will process the large volume of received information into Oracle database files, then forward the processed information to the ReportCenter Report Server.

Once one of your Collection Agents has pushed FDR data to the Report Server a new report category will appear in the web interface Report Selector, Host. The reports in the Host category are derived from FDR data.
