Set Up PacketShaper for Flow Detail Records

To use Flow Detail Records in ReportCenter you must configure one or more PacketShapers to send FDR data to ReportCenter. Once configured, your PacketShaper sends these records to ReportCenter unsolicited using UDP messages.

in a PacketShaper a collector is defined by its record type (NetFlow-5, Packeteer-1, or Packeteer-2) and its location (IP address and UDP port number). To send flow records to ReportCenter, select the Packeteer-2 format.

You can define up to four collectors in each PacketShaper, only one is required for use with ReportCenter.

To define FDR collectors:

  1. Connect to the web interface of the PacketShaper and log in using the touch password.
  2. Click the setup tab.
  3. From the Choose Setup Page list, choose flow detail records. The Flow Detail Record Settings page appears.

  4. Specify the following:
    • Collector IP — IP address of the ReportCenter Collection Agent you will use to collect FDR data (requires special license key from Packeteer)
    • Port — UDP port number used for FDR data, leave blank (applying changes will set this to the default = 9800)
    • Record Type — Type of record format to be emitted (Packeteer-2 is required for use with ReportCenter)
    • Enabled — Selecting on enables the collector. When a collector is enabled, PacketWise will emit flow detail records to the collector. Selecting off disables the collector; flow detail records will not be emitted.
  5. Click apply changes to update the settings.

Note: ReportCenter v3.1 does not support intermediate FDRs, which are available on PacketShapers running PacketWise 7.3.1 and later.
