Verify Components

ReportCenter collects performance information from your network by communicating with PacketShapers and determining the components (Traffic Classes, Hosts, Links) that are on each PacketShaper. The process of determining this configuration is called the discovery process.

Perform the following steps to verify that the devices you defined in ReportCenter are being discovered.

  1. Start the ReportCenter Administrator Console program and connect to the ReportCenter Server.
  2. In the network tree on the left click to select My Network, this causes all devices and components to be checked (selected).
  3. Click the Component View icon to select component view, or drop-down the View menu and select Component View.

  4. Examine the details in the right-hand panel of the display. After a device has been added and discovered by the Collection Agent, ReportCenter starts collecting information about the PacketShaper. You will start seeing that information in the Statistics columns several minutes after adding the device. You can control which types of statistics are shown in the columns of the main window.
  5. Additionally, you can confirm that a PacketShaper has been successfully discovered when you expand the device on the Network Tree and see a full list of components under it. This may take several minutes, especially for PacketShapers with large traffic trees. To investigate missing components, start by viewing the Poll Log; select a device in the Network Tree, and click View > Poll Log, or right-click the device name and select Poll Log.

Tip: If the Status column of the Poll Log dialog box says Timeout, and you can ping the device's IP address, there is likely an error in the Look Password or Serial Number. Correct the errors on the Device Configuration dialog box, by selecting Define > Device Configuration.
After you have passed the next polling time, as configured in your Collection Agent, you will start to see successful poll counts increasing.
