Assign ApplicationsTraffic classes reported by Packeteer units in your network have names that begin with the configured name of the Packeteer unit in the ReportCenter device record. For example, if you have an office in Amsterdam and an office in Hong Kong, assuming you name Packeteer units after their cities, you might see HTTP traffic reported with traffic class names like: ReportCenter automatically associates HTTP traffic from one site with HTTP traffic from another site, making it possible to combine information about all HTTP traffic classes into a single object called an Application, in this case named HTTP. Pre-ConfiguredReportCenter ships with a pre-configured list of applications that each Packeteer unit knows how to recognize. When a Packeteer unit reports a traffic class to ReportCenter for the first time, a process in ReportCenter looks for any matches between any portion of the traffic class name and any existing Application in the list defined in ReportCenter. So when ReportCenter parses the traffic class name Amsterdam_/Inbound/HTTP it will match with the existing Application name HTTP. When a match is found the traffic class is assigned to the matched application. In most cases all of the important applications in your network will be automatically assigned to applications. You can also: Define Application NamesYou can modify or delete existing application names, or add new application names, using the Application Names dialog. You might do this, for example, if a new type of application is recognized by your Packeteer unit, but your current ReportCenter installation is not configured to recognize this application.
Assign ApplicationsYou can manually assign one or more traffic classes that are reported by one or more Packeteer units to a specific Application Name. The Application Name can be one of those pre-configured in ReportCenter or an Application Name you have added or modified. To assign traffic classes to Applications:
