Define Device Configuration
Devices are the physical pieces of Packeteer equipment that make up your network. ReportCenter can work with PacketShaper, PacketShaper Xpress, AppVantage, and PacketSeeker products. Throughout this documentation all of these products are referred to collectively as PacketShapers. Use the Define Devices dialog to modify the properties that describe and allow access to a PacketShaper in ReportCenter.
To Define Devices

In the ReportCenter Administrator Console window select a group that contains one or more devices you want to modify.

Click Define > Modify Devices In Group to open the Device Configuration dialog box. The dialog box contains the portion of the Network Tree you selected on the left and the Configuration fields on the right.

In the Network Tree, click a device. The configuration information for the network elements you selected will display in the Configuration fields on the right.
- Select a single device and then click Modify if you wish to make changes. The Modify Device Configuration dialog appears.

Type appropriate information into the fields in the Configuration box.
The Modify Device Configuration dialog box contains the following fields:
- Name - The name of the device is shaded. To change the name of the device, right-click the device in the Network Tree, and select Rename in the context menu.
- Address - Type or change the IP address of the device.
- Serial Number - Type or change the serial number of the device.
- Description - Type or change a description of the device. The description is optional.
- Polling Enabled - Select the Polling Enabled check box to enable polling or clear the Polling Enabled check box to disable polling for this device.
- Get Community String - Type or change the SNMP Community String that is used when the agent asks the device for data. The default Community String is "public."
- Look Password - Type or change the password that enables read-only access to the PacketShaper.
- Collection Agent - Select or change the Collection Agent that will collect data for this device. To create a new Collection Agent, refer to Define Collection Agents.
Note: If you change the Collection Agent to one in a different time zone, the time zone of the device will not change to the Collection Agent's time zone, unless you explicitly change it.
- Flow Collection Agent - Select or change the Flow Collection Agent to which this device will send Flow Detail Records. You must also configure the PacketShaper to send FDR to the Flow Collection Agent. See Configure Flow Detail.
- Time Zone - Select or change the time zone where the device is located in the Time Zone control box.
- Performance Profile - Select or change the Performance Profile to be used for this device. To create a new Performance Profile, refer to Performance Profiles.

- Click OK in the Modify Device Configuration dialog.
- Click OK again in the Device Configuration dialog box.
