Classify Traffic with an MPLS Label
When special traffic is assigned an MPLS label to facilitate prescribed
performance, you can configure PacketWise to classify the traffic separately.
Then, once you have traffic classes for your MPLS-enabled traffic of interest,
you can apply analysis techniques or assign partitions or policies to
control performance.
Steps:
-
Determine the MPLS label number of the traffic you'd like to manage.
Are there any other characteristics of the traffic? For example, do
you just want to detect traffic with an MPLS label of 5? Or do you
want to detect SAP traffic from a particular server that has an MPLS
label of 5?
-
Create
an MPLS traffic class for your MPLS-labeled traffic. If you have
more criteria than just an MPLS label, add criteria to your matching
rules to identify precisely the traffic you have in mind.
-
To protect the traffic in your traffic class, consider creating a
static, burstable partition. Consult Sizing
a Static Partition for help in determining appropriate minimum
and maximum sizes.
-
Create
a partition to reserve capacity for the total of all traffic in
your traffic class.
-
Determine
an appropriate priority for the traffic in your traffic class,
taking into consideration the goals of its particular MPLS label.
- Set
a rate policy on the traffic class. Use 0 guaranteed, no limit,
and the priority you determined from the previous step.
