Monitor PolicyCenter Configurations

The Configurations window allows you to monitor different types of information about your PolicyCenter configuration tree, individual configurations, and assigned units.

View and Search the Configuration Tree

Click the Configurations tab to display the Configurations window. The left pane of the Configurations window displays a list of all PolicyCenter configurations. To view both sharable configurations and the individual unit configuration for each PacketShaper assigned to these sharable configurations, click the Show Unit Configs checkbox. To view PolicyCenter sharable configurations only, leave this checkbox unchecked.

The Configurations window can display two different tables of configuration information, the Details View and the Table View. You can change views by clicking the Table View or Details View buttons in the lower left corner of this window.

  • In the default Details View, the configurations list displays the names of all the configurations, the organization associated with each one, and, if the Show Unit Configs checkbox is checked, the unit name of each unit assigned to these configurations.  show screen.

  • In the expanded Table View, the configurations list displays all the information in the Details View, plus the time of the most recent edit for each configuration and the username and organization of the user that made the changes  show screen.

Click any of the Table View column headings to sort the information in the table by that column criteria. Make a column wider or narrower by clicking the border of a column heading and dragging the border to a new position. You may also customize the appearance of the Table View by clicking any of the column headings and dragging the column into a new location within the table.

In both views, the bottom half of the Configurations list any displays draft versions of sharable configurations and indicates which configurations are currently locked. This part of the pane does not display unless there are draft configurations in the configuration list.

Tip: If your configuration tree is very large or has many assigned units, it may be difficult to locate a specific configuration. You can search for a configuration in either the Details View or Table View by entering all or part of a configuration or organization name in the Search field at the top of this pane. The configuration tree window will display the configuration path for configurations with a matching configuration or organization name. If any child configurations match the search query, the results will include the full configuration path for those child configurations. Click the X button by the search field to clear the field and display the complete configuration list once again.

When you assign PacketShapers running PacketWise versions 7.0.0-7.4.x, or 8.0.0-8.2.x to a sharable PolicyCenter configuration, those units do not appear in the configuration tree under their assigned configuration. Similarly, the Configuration Information tab will not show that this unit is assigned to its sharable configuration. The configuration tree and Configuration Information tabs display this data only for units running PacketWise 7.5.x and PacketWise 8.3.x (and later releases). You can identify the configurations for units running PacketWise 6.x-7.4.x or 8.0.x-8.2.x by clicking on the Units tab, selecting the unit in question, then clicking the Unit Information tab.

Exported data columns will be sorted in the same order in which they are displayed on the screen. Hidden data columns will not be exported.

Monitor and Manage Individual Configurations

The right window pane has the following five tabs:

  • Information: Identify at a glance which units are assigned to that configuration, the user name and organization of the user who last edited the configuration, and the time the change was made. You can search for an individual PacketShaper assigned to the selected configuration by entering all or part of the unit name in the Search field at the top of this pane, and then clicking the arrow button. The Information pane will display any matching configuration names.

Note: As a security feature, users that do not have access to the default PC organization cannot view change details for configurations owned by the PC organization, such as the user name of the PC user who made the last change, or time of the change.

  • Operations: The operations page lets you rename, copy, move, delete, clear, backup and restore a configuration, or publish an individual unit configuration or a sharable configuration draft.

  • Class Tree: View and edit the current class tree for the configuration, including any policies, partitions, and defined host lists. Although you must create a draft version of a sharable configuration before you can edit that configuration, you do not need to create a draft before you edit the configuration of an individual PacketShaper.

  • Setup: Click any of the Setup pages from the Setup page list to view or change current setup attributes for the configuration.

  • Reports: When you define reports for a configuration, all units assigned to that configuration will inherit those report definitions. Note that you must access the browser interface of an individual PacketShaper to view report data for that unit.
