Show Real-Time Graphs

Note: This feature is enabled by a software plug-in, available at no charge to users with a current customer support contract.

Use the Real-time Graphs reporting plug-in to view the current real-time bandwidth utilization, in bits per second, of one or more traffic classes. The plug-in offers three different graphical views:

Note: The Real-time Graphs plug-in requires Java Virtual Machine 1.1.4 or higher. If the JVM isn't already installed, you will be asked if you want to download it the first time you use the plug-in.

Link View

When you click the Real-time Graphs button, Link View is automatically displayed (Link View show screen). Link View plots the rates of the Inbound and Outbound links, allowing you to see rates in real time. A speedometer-like gauge displays the real-time rate for each link, and the needle on the gauge dynamically updates as the rate fluctuates. In addition, a line graph displays Inbound and Outbound rates at the current time (now) and tracks the rates over the last three minutes.

Application View

Application View (Application View show screen) allows you to select which traffic classes (applications) you want to graph in real time. With this graph, you can plot up to 10 classes at once. To create an application graph:

1. Click Application View.

2. From the Available Classes list, select the classes you want to graph. Use one of the following methods:

  • Click the class name in the Available Classes list, then click the >> button to move it over to the Classes to be Graphed list. (Or, you can double-click the class name.)
  • Hold down Ctrl as you click each desired name in the Available Classes list, and click the >> button to move all selected classes to the Target Classes list. (You can also use the Shift-click method to select a group of consecutive classes.)
  • If you accidentally add a file to the Classes to be Graphed list, you can select it and use the << or All << buttons.

3. After you have selected the classes you want to graph, click the Graph button.

Each class' rate displays as a different color line on the graph. This graph displays the class rates at the current time (now) and tracks the rates over the last three minutes.

Sub-Application View

Sub-Application View (Sub-Application View show screen) allows you to select a parent class and plot the real-time bandwidth utilization of up to nine of its child classes. This graph is displayed as a stacked area chart.

To create a sub-application graph:

1. Click Sub-Application View.

2. In the Available Parent Classes list, click the parent class whose children you want to graph.

3. In the Available Child Classes list, select all of the child classes you want to graph. Use one of the following techniques:

  • Hold down Ctrl as you click each class name.
  • Use the Shift-click method to select a group of consecutive classes.

4. Click the Graph button.

Each class' rate displays in a different color area on the graph. Any activity for the parent class that is not in one of the selected child classes will be displayed in an area labeled "Other." For example, suppose you select 4 of the Citrix parent's 9 classes; the activity for the 5 classes you didn't select will be combined together into an area labeled "Other Citrix." This allows you to see the relative bandwidth utilization of the child classes.

To see the actual rate value associated with a specific class at a particular point in time, mouse over the area for the class. For example, if red is the color associated with Inbound/HTTP, mouse over the red area to see a pop-up tool tip, such as Rate: 176,496 bps. Moving the mouse left or right would give you the rate at an earlier or later time.

Plug-in Unresponsive

If the real-time graphs are not rendering, try the following steps to fix the problem:

1. First, try refreshing the PacketWise browser window.

2. If that doesn't work, close all PacketWise browser windows and log back in.

3. If you are still seeing a problem when you try to view real-time graphs, you will need to reset your unit. See Reboot the Unit.
