Copy a Configuration

The copy function allows you to copy a configuration's settings to a new location within the PolicyCenter configuration tree, or overwrite an existing configuration. With this function, instead of manually designing a new configuration from scratch, you can start with a copy of an existing configuration and then make any necessary additions or changes quickly and easily. The copy function's Include children option allows you to copy the selected configuration and all of its child configurations with a single copy operation.

Use the copy function when you want to perform any of the following tasks:

What Classes and Attributes are Copied?

When you copy a single configuration, you are copying only its local and local overridden and underridden classes and sharable attributes, that is, classes or attributes that were created within that configuration, and not the classes or attributes it may have inherited from a parent configuration. If the configuration you want to copy has child configurations under it, you may include the child configurations in the copy function by selecting the Include children option.
See an example of copying a configuration and included children.

Notes: Because shared classes inherited from a parent configuration are not copied, it is possible to copy local child traffic classes but not their shared parent traffic class inherited from the parent. If you copy or move this configuration to another configuration that does not have the parent class, a dummy parent folder will be created for the children. This dummy parent folder allows the copied configuration to maintain the same traffic tree structure as the original configuration.
see examples of traffic class inheritance as a configuration is copied from one parent to another.

If a configuration has a local or overridden class that uses a host list inherited from its parent, moving or copying this unit configuration will cause an error if the associated host list is not in the new parent configuration as well. To work around this, create a local host list before moving or copying the configuration, or ensure that the host list also exists in the new parent configuration. If you wish to create a copy of a configuration's local and inherited attributes, including inherited parent classes and hostlists, you must use the config save and config load commands in the PolicyCenter console command-line interface.
