Create a New PolicyCenter Configuration

When you first install PolicyCenter, it will have one defined sharable configuration, the default configuration, that cannot be deleted or renamed.

When you add a unit to PolicyCenter, PolicyCenter creates a new unique configuration and assigns that unit to it. You may, however, create an entirely new sharable configuration if you want to perform any of the following tasks:

  • Create a new parent configuration that manages key classes and settings for child configurations with assigned units.

  • Create a new child configuration so you can edit inherited classes and settings without affecting the parent configuration.

  • Create a new configuration for testing new classes and settings before you make the changes to configurations with assigned units.

To create another sharable PolicyCenter configuration:

  1. Click the Configurations tab to open the configurations window.

  2. Select a parent configuration for the new configuration by clicking a configuration in the configuration tree on the left pane, or click Root to add a new root-level configuration at the top of the PolicyCenter configuration tree.  show screen

Note: You cannot add a new configuration under a draft configuration.

  3. Click the new button under the configuration tree in the left pane.  show screen

The PolicyCenter Add a New Configuration window opens.  show screen

  4. In the Name field, enter a configuration name of up to 20 characters, including any combination of the following: a-z, A-Z, the numbers 0-9, - (hyphen), _ (underscore), and . (period). Spaces are not allowed in a configuration name.

  5. Click add.

Units can now be assigned to this new configuration.

Note: Child configurations cannot have a path name longer than 128 characters. Very long path names will be abbreviated in the browser interface to display the only the last few characters of the configuration path.

For example, the configuration /parent4/parent3/parent2/parent1/child_config will be abbreviated to ...ent3/parent2/parent1/child_config in the PolicyCenter browser interface.
