Remove Units from PolicyCenter

PacketShapers running PacketWise software version 5.2 or later can operate in either shared mode or local mode. A unit in local mode uses a configuration derived only from the files on the unit itself, while units in shared mode use PolicyCenter for configuration information. To remove a unit from PolicyCenter, you must first switch the unit to local mode.

While the unit is in shared mode, PolicyCenter continually updates the configuration files on the unit's flash disk to match its PolicyCenter configuration. Therefore, after you switch from shared mode back to local mode, the unit's local configuration will be the same as its previous PolicyCenter configuration. Be aware that simply switching a unit to shared mode does not remove it completely from PolicyCenter—you must also delete the unit entry from PolicyCenter.

Switch the Unit to Local Mode

To switch a unit to local mode:

  1. Access the unit's browser interface, using a browser and the IP address of the unit.

  2. Click the setup tab.

  3. From the Choose Setup Page list, select PolicyCenter access.

  4. Select local mode.

  5. A pop-up window will ask you to confirm that you want to switch the unit to local mode. Click OK.

Delete the Unit from PolicyCenter

To remove a unit status entry and delete a unit from PolicyCenter:

  1. Access the PolicyCenter browser interface.

  2. Select the configurations tab.

  3. Select clean up units.

  4. Specify an Out of Contact time limit (How long should a unit be nonresponsive before I delete its entry?)

  5. Select Clean.

Note: If you clear the unit status entry for a unit that is temporarily turned off or disconnected from the network and then delete that unit's configuration, the unit will report errors when it is powered on or reconnected to the network. You can clear these errors by reassigning the unit to another existing PolicyCenter configuration.
