Monitor PolicyCenter Configurations
The Overviews window and the Configurations window allow
you to monitor different types of information about your PolicyCenter
configuration tree, individual configurations, and units.
- The Overviews window
displays bandwidth-management settings for a single configuration, and
provides an instant snapshot of the configuration's current settings
for traffic classes, partitions, and policies.
- The Configurations
window provides information about all configurations in your PolicyCenter
configuration tree, individual PacketShapers, and unit status. Use
this window to monitor individual units assigned to a PolicyCenter
configuration, or to identify units' DNS names, IP address, model types
and software image versions
Monitor a Configuration's Traffic
Tree
To monitor a PolicyCenter configuration's traffic tree,
policies and partitions:
- Click the overviews tab.
- Click the Editing Configuration drop-down list and select
the configuration you want to display.
The traffic class overview table lists the following information for
each traffic class in the selected configuration.
|
Column
|
Description
|
|
Partition
Min-Max
|
The minimum and maximum amount of bandwidth
allocated for a class subtree. (Click the partition to modify it.)
Uncommitted is the difference between
the current link speed and the sum of all committed partition minimums.
Uncommitted indicates that the partition size is dynamically
determined at run time and the minimum allocation is whatever is
not committed to other partitions.
None indicates that the partition is
burstable without a limit.
If the min and max values are the same, the
partition is fixed and non-burstable.
If a percentage appears after the partition size, the partition
was specified as a percentage of the parent partition's size.
Example: 450k (10%) for the Inbound/HTTP class indicates
that HTTP's partition size is 10% of the Inbound partition's size,
resulting in a partition size of 450 Kbps (assuming the link size
is 4.5 Mbps).
If a down arrow appears next to the partition size, the partition
is dynamic. Place the mouse pointer on the down to display the
parameters of the dynamic partition: minimum and maximum subpartition
size, the number of active and idle users currently using subpartitions,
and the maximum number of subpartitions available.
|
|
Policy
Type (Pri.)
Guar.-Limit
|
Shows the policy (if any) applied to the class.
(Click the policy to modify it.)
For a priority policy, the defined priority
is shown.
For a rate policy, the guaranteed rate setting,
cap, and burstable priority level are shown.

|
Top User Analysis
|
Microphone and ear icons indicate if top talkers
and top listeners are being tracked for the class. See List
Top Hosts.
To view the top bandwidth talkers and listeners,
click the respective icons to display a page of transmitter or receiver
statistics.

|
Traffic Discovery
|
A check mark in this column indicates traffic discovery is enabled
within that specific class. Some traffic classes will not allow
traffic discovery within the class because they already are as
detailed as possiblethat is, child classes cannot be generated
for the class. For example, a class that matches on IPX cannot
be further classified. For details, see Turning
on Traffic Discovery for an Individual Class.

The information displayed in the table is sorted by the Traffic Class
Name column, but you can sort this table by any column. Just click the
heading of the column you want to use for the sort. The information in
the Traffic Class Overview window is arranged from highest to lowest
according to that column.
The Traffic Class Overview window can be set to show only the
classes that have partitions or policies, or all classes. PolicyCenter
will retain the display setting even if you go to another tab or
exit your session.
To change the list of classes displayed:
1. From the Traffic Class Overview, window, click the Display
drop-down list, then select one of the following:
- All Classes. (Lists all classes in the traffic tree.)
- Classes with Partitions. (Lists all classes that have partitions assigned
to them.)
- Classes with Policies. (Lists all classes that have policies assigned
to them.)
2. Click the Update button. The window will refresh to display
the selected information.
View all PolicyCenter Configurations and Units
Click the Configurations tab to display the Configurations
window, which allows you to:
- Identify at a glance which units are operating within desired parameters,
and which units have configuration errors or adaptive response agents
with a green, yellow, or red status.
- Identify units' DNS names, IP addresses, model numbers, and image
versions
- Identify which units are assigned to a PolicyCenter configuration
- Access the browser interface of an individual unit. Click the IP address
of the unit to open that unit's browser interface in a separate browser
window
- Reassign units to a new PolicyCenter configuration
- Rename a unit or a PolicyCenter configuration
- Clear
a PolicyCenter configuration.
- Delete
a PolicyCenter configuration.
- Identify units that have been removed from PolicyCenter (or are not
responding). Out of Contact time entries can indicate the
removal process is only partially complete.
The Configurations window also enables you to sort data
by clicking on specific column headings. For example, clicking the
Configuration Name heading lists the parent configuration names in
alphabetical order and shows the hierarchy of parent and child configurations,
( show screen)
while clicking the Adaptive Response heading arranges the list
of units by their agents' current status colors.
