Create a New PolicyCenter Configuration
When you first install PolicyCenter, it will have only two defined configurations:
- A configuration which allows you to configure settings for the PolicyCenter
software and Windows server. This configuration name is based on the
serial number of your PolicyCenter software, which typically begins
with the numbers 901. This configuration may be renamed, but
may not be deleted.
- The default configuration. This configuration cannot be deleted
or renamed.
Additionally, when you add a unit to PolicyCenter, PolicyCenter creates
a new unique configuration and assigns that unit to it. You may, however
create an entirely new PolicyCenter configuration if you want to:
- Create a new parent configuration that manages key classes and settings
for child configurations with assigned units.
- Create a new child configuration so you can edit inherited classes
and settings without affecting the parent configuration.
- Create a new configuration for testing new classes and settings before
you make the changes to configurations with assigned units.
To create another PolicyCenter configuration:
- Click the configurations, manage, setup, options
or info tab, then click the add button at the top of the
browser window. The PolicyCenter configurations options will
open.
show screen
- Select the location where you want to add the new configuration with
the Add a new configuration under drop-down list. You may create
a new child configuration by placing the new configuration under one
that already exists, or create a new top-level configuration by selecting
the slash (/) symbol in the drop-down list. If you have many
existing configurations, you may have to scroll to the top of the list
to see the slash (/) symbol.
- Enter a configuration name of up to 20 characters, including any combination
of the following:
a-z
A-Z
the numbers 0-9
-(hyphen)
_ (underscore)
. (period)
Spaces are not allowed in a configuration name.
- Click add. Units can now be assigned to this new configuration.
Note: Child configurations with several levels of parent configurations
cannot have a path name longer than 128 characters. Very long path names
will be abbreviated in the browser interface to display the only the last
few characters of the configuration path.
For example, the configuration /parent4/parent3/parent2/parent1/child_config
will be abbreviated to ...ent3/parent2/parent1/child_config in
the PolicyCenter browser interface.
