Compression Notes
- When compression is enabled, the peak rate of a small partition may occasionally
go higher than its limit. However, the average rate will still conform to
the partition limit.
- Xpress units must be connected to the WAN or Internet through the OUTSIDE
port.
- If you are evaluating compression and have set up two PacketShapers back
to back, you need to connect the PacketShapers through their OUTSIDE ports.
In addition, do not set a site router on either unit.
- If Xpress is deployed in a Virtual Private Network (VPN), the (private)
address space on both sides of the VPN tunnel between the Xpress units needs
to be separate and unique in order to allow the two Xpress units to set up
a compression tunnel.
- Do not apply a never-admit policy to the RSVP class. If you do, the compression
tunnel discovery process will not function.
- Only packets with unicast destination addresses are sent through the compression
tunnel; multicast packets are not sent through the tunnel.
