Update Software Images on Multiple Packeteer Devices

PolicyCenter’s new file distribution service is configured and managed through the PolicyCenter web-browser or command-line interfaces. The PolicyCenter file distribution server can obtain the latest software image files from the Packeteer support website, then schedule a time to copy and install these images on Packeteer units assigned to a PolicyCenter configuration. This service uses HTTP (or optionally HTTPS) to copy files from PolicyCenter to individual units, and replaces the previous PolicyCenter image distribution service, which relied on peer-to-peer FTP copies among units.

Note: This feature can distribute files to units running PacketWise 7.0 or later, but cannot be used to upgrade units running PacketWise 5.x-6.x. Your PolicyCenter software must have a current Packeteer support contract to download files from the Packeteer support website. If you do not have a support contract, contact your Packeteer representative.

Steps:

  1. Update Files in the File Distribution Library. PolicyCenter’s file distribution server can be configured to automatically contact the Packeteer support site and download the latest image files, plug-ins and PolicyCenter upgrades.

  2. Prescribe an image for a configuration. Choose a PolicyCenter configuration, then select an image for that configuration from the PolicyCenter file library.

  3. Create a schedule. Schedule a time to distribute the new images to individual Packeteer units assigned to that configuration. At the desired time, the units will download the new image file, then reboot and load the image.
