Traffic Classification Tasks

Before you can manage bandwidth allocation, you must determine exactly what applications are running on your network. Packeteer’s traffic discovery feature can automatically provide you with a list, called a traffic tree, of all the applications on a network. PacketWise differentiates one application from another by evaluating characteristics in traffic flows and grouping them into classes. Each traffic class contains at least one matching rule, which is a set of characteristics that identifies a specific traffic type. For more information, see the Traffic Classification Overview.

PacketWise can automatically create classes as traffic is discovered on your network, or you can create classes manually. This section includes tasks for enabling automatic traffic discovery and creating traffic classes manually.

Use the navigation bar to select a classification task.
