Update Software Images on Multiple Packeteer Devices

When you upgrade your PolicyCenter software, we recommend you also upgrade all of your PacketShapers and PacketSeekers to the latest version of PacketWise software (included on your PolicyCenter CD). You may not be looking forward to the repetitive task of upgrading each individual unit, nor might you relish the thought of traveling across town (or across the country) to upgrade PacketShapers in remote branch offices. Fortunately, PolicyCenter provides a simple solution by allowing you to quickly and efficiently propagate software updates to all the Packeteer units on your network.

PolicyCenter can be used to upgrade multiple PacketShapers at once by distributing a upgraded PacketWise software image from one unit to all units in PolicyCenter. The units in any selected group will use FTP to load the software image from the one upgraded PacketShaper. Note that even though a PacketShaper using frame relay cannot share its configuration, an image can still be distributed from that unit using this method. Follow these steps to upgrade the software in all units of any group:

1. Upgrade the software image on any unit in PolicyCenter, following the directions in the PacketWise Release Notes.
   
   
2. Access the PolicyCenter Web interface, click the setup tab, then click the Choose Setup Page drop-down list.
   
   
3. Select image from the drop-down list.  show screen
   
   
4. To upgrade an entire group to the new image, select the group you wish to upgrade, with the Group: drop-down list. Choose (group) in the Unit: drop-down list.
   Note: To upgrade only a single unit within the group, specify the unit you want to upgrade in the (unit) drop-down list.
   
   
5. The version drop-down list on the setup page now contains a list of all software versions used by any unit in PolicyCenter. Select the version you want to use.
   
   
6. Click apply changes.
