Remove Units from PolicyCenter
Packeteer units running PacketWise software version 5.2 or later can
be in either shared mode or local mode.
- Units in shared mode use PolicyCenter for configuration information,
deriving an effective configuration that combines the values of its
local unit configuration
and group configuration. While in shared mode, the configuration
on the unit's flash disk is automatically synchronized with the PolicyCenter
configuration. To remove a unit from PolicyCenter, you must first
switch the unit to local mode.
- A unit in local mode uses a configuration derived only
from the files on the unit itself. Note that after you switch from shared
mode back to local mode, the local configuration will be the same as
the unit's PolicyCenter (combined local and group) configuration.
While the unit is in shared mode, PolicyCenter continually updates the
configuration files on the unit's flash disk to match its PolicyCenter
configuration. Switching a unit back to local mode will not remove the
configuration attributes the unit previously inherited from its group.
For example, if a unit in shared mode has a local HTTP traffic class
and an FTP class inherited from its group configuration, switching the
unit to local mode will make both these classes part of the unit's local
configuration.
Be aware that simply switching a unit to shared mode does not remove
it completely from PolicyCenter. You must also delete the unit from PolicyCenter,
then remove the unit configuration.
Switch the Unit to Local Mode
To switch a unit to local mode:
- Access the unit's Web interface, using a browser and the IP address
of the unit.
- Click the setup tab.
- Choose PolicyCenter access from the Setup Page drop-down
list.
- Select local mode.
- A popup window will ask you to confirm that you want to switch the
unit to local mode. Click OK.
Delete the Unit Configuration from PolicyCenter
Access the PolicyCenter Web interface.
- Select the configurations tab. The unit will still appear in
the Unit: drop-down list, but now the dead time field
contains the time since the last communication.
- Select the unit to be deleted from the tree.
- Click the Delete button (located under the tabs).
Remove the Configuration
From PolicyCenter:
- Select the configurations tab.
- Select clean configurations.
- Specify a dead time limit (How long should a unit be nonresponsive
before I delete its entry?)
- Select Clean.
