Add a PolicyCenter Group

When you first install PolicyCenter, it will have only two defined groups:

  • The PolicyCenter group, which allows you to configure settings for the PolicyCenter software and Windows server.

  • The default group. All Packeteer units are placed in this default group when they are first added to PolicyCenter. This group cannot be deleted or renamed.

If all the Packeteer units you add to PolicyCenter have very similar traffic classes, policies and partitions, you can configure the single default group to manage all the units. If you want to manage some of the units on your network differently than others, you will need to create one or more other PolicyCenter group configurations, then move units from their initial default group into these new group configurations.

To create another group configuration, follow the steps below:

  1. Click the configurations, manage, setup, or info tab, then select (group) from the Unit: drop-down list. This will display the group toolbar, with the add group, copy group, and clear group buttons.

  2. Click add group. The PolicyCenter Group Options window will open.  show screen

  3. Enter a group name of up to 20 characters, including any combination of the following:
    a-z
    A-Z

    the numbers 0-9
    -(hyphen)
    _ (underscore)
    . (period)
Spaces are not allowed in the group name.

  4. Click add group.

Units can now be moved from the default group into this new group.
