Configure ATM Support
ATM support is configured via the command-line interface.
Note: Virtual circuit partition sizes, which are automatically
created by the PacketWise ATM feature, are regularly adjusted in response
to need. As a result, if you require manual control of virtual circuit
partitions, manually create VC partitions and child classes without using
any of the PacketWise ATM commands. In this way you can set the partition
size and make it burstable up to the Peak Cell Rate (PCR). For example,
you might create a 16 Kbps partition that is burstable to 56 Kbps. Note
that when you choose to manually create VC classes and partitions, PacketWise
cannot respond to compression or contention on the router as it automatically
does when you use the ATM commands.
To configure ATM support:
- Use the atm
add command to configure each router on your ATM network.
- After several seconds, use the atm
show command to verify that PacketWise has picked up the WAN interface
name/number, the VPI, the VCI, and the router's SysName.
This information is collected through SNMP polling even when shaping
and traffic discovery are turned off.
- Use the atm
routing command to verify that the IP routes have been detected.
- Check the values for CIR and EIR in the atm
show output. If you need to adjust these values, use the atm
override command.
- Use atm
show to verify that the override successfully updated the values.
Also, use partition
show to verify that the minimum and maximum values for each VC partition
matches the values you set with the atm override command.
- If you haven't already done so, turn
on traffic discovery in the browser interface or use the setup
discover command at the CLI. When traffic discovery is enabled,
PacketWise creates classes under each VC class for the applications
and protocols it detects.
- Verify that shaping is turned on by clicking setup in the browser
interface or using the setup
shaping command at the CLI. When you turn on shaping, PacketWise
can begin enforcing the adjusted partition sizes for its VC classes.
- If necessary, use the atm
options command to enable/disable auto-routing and VC traffic discovery.
- Use the atm
community command to change the SNMP read string, if this was changed
on the router.
